The truck is stocked with an ever-changing assortment of works from Minnesota artists. Works include anything creative—jewelry, books, paintings, sculpture, welding, weaving, pottery and more.

Matt Swenson, the art truck’s driver, founder and curator, crafts robots that will be on display.

Swenson will be accompanied by fellow artists. Kevin Kluever will work on a Glen Lake inspired oil painting while Bing Puddlepot will read from his children’s book.

Swenson has two goals: make art accessible and help artists expand their reach.

“I just think there’s a better way to get art than from a gallery. You don’t have to know anything about art to walk up to a truck,” Swenson said of his two-ton 1950 Chevy 6400 grain truck.

Swenson said that the large truck turns heads.

“It’s an event the instant I pull the parking brake,” he said.

A full list of artists and appearances can be found at djonk.net/mnarttruck and facebook.com/mnarttruck.

Hopkins Women’s Club meets Sept. 19
The Hopkins Women’s Club is a service and social group that has served the area for more than 100 years. Since 1908, the club’s goal has been to beautify Hopkins and support families in the Hopkins and Minnetonka area.

The group meets monthly for a luncheon at Mizpah United Church of Christ, 412 Fifth Ave.

The upcoming meeting, with lunch at 11:45 a.m. followed by a short business meeting, is Tuesday, Sept. 19. Beginning at 1 p.m., the Plymouth Rockers Senior Choir will perform.

Reservations are $12 and can be made by calling 612-790-6070.

Each spring, it is tradition for the group to award a scholarship to a young woman who recently graduated from Hopkins High School to pursue further education.

The club has benefited area organizations such as ResourceWest, Adopt-A-Family around the holidays, ICA Food Shelf and MoveFwd.

While the Hopkins Women’s Club is a service organization, it is a social one too. There are several interest group outings during the year to have fun as a group.

The annual event helps raise funds for neglected, at-risk and homeless dogs. Most were rescued from commercial breeding facilities.

Underground Rescue is the organization behind the event. The nonprofit is a foster-based rescue group dedicated to the rehabilitation and permanent placement of homeless dogs. More than 6,000 animals have rescued through the organization since 2000. Last year’s

Biscuits & Blooms raised approximately $25,000.

Leashed dogs are welcome at the event.
