Westside Communities in Action, a nonprofit charitable organization based in Wayzata, seeks volunteers in the western Twin Cities suburbs.
The organization consolidates many of the volunteer opportunities available in the area and puts them all online at westsidecia.org. Opportunities are searchable by age group, interest or a particular organization.
“We want to make it easy for people to give back,” said Tammy Orning, executive director. “We do all the research for you and put the information all in one place.”
Organizations and nonprofits can post opportunities as well.
There are currently more than 100 volunteer opportunities on the website – everything from providing birthday gifts to assisting seniors to participating in food drives and helping pets get adopted.
Seven unpaid volunteers run the organization, which began in 2011 as a grassroots effort of elementary school moms who wanted to make a difference in the community through service.
To learn more about the organization, stop by their booth at this year’s James J. Hill Days, which is Sept. 8-10 on Lake Street in downtown Wayzata.
