One of the most highly anticipated boys soccer matches of the 2017 season will feature Wayzata against Hopkins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Hopkins High Stadium. Hopkins, under new coach Chris Swenson, has come into the season with renewed energy, posting quality wins over St. Louis Park and Champlin Park, Meanwhile, Wayzata scored shutouts over Mounds View and St. Louis Park the first week of the season.
Hopkins is the host high school for the annual Bauman/Rovn boys and girls cross country meets Thursday, Sept. 7, at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista. Armstrong, Eden Prairie, International School and Minnetonka will be among the local high schools participating. After a series of middle-school and junior varsity races, the two varsity races will follow, beginning at approximately 5:40 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 8, marks Week 2 of the high school football season. All five Lake Conference schools have 7 p.m. games that day. In the featured game, Minnetonka and Wayzata will play their annual game for the Bay Bell trophy at Wayzata High Stadium. Eden Prairie will host Lakeville North in a battle between traditional state tournament teams. Hopkins will entertain Waconia. Edina is scheduled to travel to Rosemount.
Tonka Swim Invite
The annual Minnetonka Invitational girls swimming and diving competition will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Minnetonka Middle School East pool. In addition to the host team from Tonka, participants include Breck School, Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Minneapolis Washburn, Osseo, St. Paul Highland Park, Visitation and Wayzata.
