Wayzata has – and continues to be – a place for boutique shopping and high-end dining experiences and with the new community comprehensive plan, city leaders will look to the future.

The Wayzata 2040, Sailing Ahead program is a community enhancement initiative that will allow committees to imagine the future for the lake community.

The approximately 4,000 city residents will soon see city initiatives that are intended to be innovative, inclusive and sustainable.

On Aug. 2, the city council discussed an update of the project and described the role Future iQ will have in the project.

Future iQ will handle the communication portion and will conduct research and analysis.

At the meeting, both Future iQ and the city council members discussed updates and what is to be expected in the months ahead. Leading the discussion was Future iQ’s Juliana Panetta and Heather Branigin.

“The first thing we will be doing is a benchmark analysis and report that we are going to be doing for the city of Wayzata,” said Panetta. “There is going to be a community survey going live tomorrow morning and the think tank invitations will be opening up tomorrow as well.”

Panetta explained that the bulk of the community engagement will be through mid-December and the project will kick into stronger implementation at the start of the new year.

The Think Tank Invitation/Nominations will be open until Sept. 15 and the actual Think Tank Workshop will be Sept. 25-26. In mid-December there will be a stakeholder engagement report, followed by a Wayzata 2040, Sailing Ahead Report in early January.

The council and Future iQ hope to have the residents of Wayzata to understand that the comprehensive plan will be best utilized when the residents answer the open-ended questions with thoughtful and informative responses.

It was also discussed that the council will partner with the Chamber as well as local businesses to help spread the word about the survey. The survey will take 15-20 minutes and can be found at lab.future-iq.com/Wayzata-2040-sailing-ahead/

The survey is open to all people who have an interest in the future of Wayzata.
