Two candidates for mayor, two candidates for council so far in Hopkins

Two candidates have filed for mayor of Hopkins. Incumbent Mayor Molly Cummings has filed for reelection. Robert Ivers, who previously ran for the position in 2015, has also filed.

Two candidates have also filed for Hopkins City Council. Both candidates, Katy Campbell and Kristi Halverson, are incumbent council members.

The mayor serves a two-year term. The city council has four members who serve four-year terms. The elected members’ terms will begin January 2018.

The period for filing affidavits of candidacy opened Aug. 1 and will close 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The filing period for the city of Minnetonka was in May.

Those interested in running for office must file with the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State or a local election office.
