Where’s Waldo? In Excelsior, of course!
The iconic children’s book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting in July at 25 businesses throughout Excelsior, thanks to Excelsior Bay Books.
Finding Waldo is a great summer vacation activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses and the shop local movement. Some of the stores involved include Capers, Excelsior Florist and Birdstone Beads.
Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo in Excelsior” passport at Excelsior Bay Books at 36 Water St., Excelsior. The passport contains the names of all the participating sites.
Participants can get the passport stamped or signed at each location where they spot Waldo. Collecting store stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses will entitle diligent seekers entry into a grand-prize drawing Saturday, July 22, with the top prize being a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the “Where’s Waldo?” books. Martin Handford’s collections of crowd scenes swept the world and have held a cherished spot on bookstore shelves the world over. There are now more than 67 million Waldo books in print worldwide, and they’ve been translated into more than 30 languages.
To celebrate such a special milestone, Waldo’s friend Wenda will also hide at Excelsior Bay Books.
Participants of the scavenger hunt will have double the fun searching for both Waldo and Wenda. There is no charge to participate.
