New assistant principal for Minnetonka High School

The Minnetonka School District has announced that Freya Schirmacher will assume the role of assistant principal for Minnetonka High School, joining the team of Principal Jeffrey Erickson, Assistant Principal Amy Steiner and Assistant Principal Robb Virgin. Her first day is July 1.

“I am thrilled to join the amazing team at Minnetonka High School,” said Schirmacher. “I believe we have the unparalleled opportunity to expect high levels of academic achievement while developing innovative programs to enable all students to reach their highest levels of academic and personal achievement. I look forward to partnering with students, staff, families and community members as we engage in this work and pursue innovative ways for all students to reach their full potential.”

Schirmacher brings more than 12 years of educational leadership and teaching experience to this role, serving currently as Administrative Dean of Students for Edgewood Middle School in the Mounds View School District. In that position, she leads the efforts to ensure the academic, social and behavioral success of all students.

Prior to that, she served as Instructional Leader and Special Education Department Lead at Fridley High School. There, she worked with the leadership team to develop and improve systems related to instructional leadership and classroom and student management.

She also brings more than 10 years of experience as a special education teacher at the elementary school and high school levels.

Additionally, as a trained International Baccalaureate workshop leader and site visitor, she has led national workshops on inclusion and access for all students and participated in formal school evaluation and authorization site visit teams across the country.
