The League of Women Voters Wayzata-Plymouth Area will host a speaker’s event on the subject of refugees in Minnesota 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 1 at Plymouth City Hall.
What is the process for refugees to apply to come to the U.S.? How are their applications accepted and what happens once they are here? What are the facts surrounding refugee communities in Minnesota?
Given the recent news surrounding refugees and all the information coming from a multitude of sources, the League of Women Voters Wayzata-Plymouth will bring together several community leaders who have experience working with refugees to help answer some of these questions.
The speakers on the panel include Melody Ward from the MN Council of Churches – Refugee Services, Michele Garnett McKenzie, director of advocacy at The Advocates for Human Rights and Zaynab Abdi, ambassador for refugees and immigrants, student at St. Catherine University and refugee from Yemen.
The event is free and open to the public.
