St. Louis Park boys soccer built a 3-1 first-half lead at Robbinsdale Armstrong before pulling away in the second half for a 4-1 season-opener win Thursday.

Park sophomore midfielder Zinedine Kroeten scored once and assisted on a second goal while juniors Joshua Halper and Jacob Stillman and senior Miguel Ocampo added goals.

The Orioles couldn’t find that same offensive production in the home opener at St. Louis Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Park succumbed to Wayzata 2-1 as Orioles senior Ian Lockhart scored the lone goal in the second half.

Park had two more home games in its longest home stand of the season against St. Cloud Tech (Aug. 29) and Cretin-Derham Hall (Sept. 1).

St. Louis Park girls soccer couldn’t figure out Robbinsdale Armstrong as the Falcons made a first-half goal stand as the game winner, 1-0 Thursday at Armstrong.

The Orioles host Washburn Thursday at 7 p.m. Thursday in the home opener at St. Louis Park Stadium and follow that up two nights later with a 5 p.m. start against Cretin-Derham Hall.

Red Knights opener win
Benilde-St. Margaret’s boys soccer team made a prosperous trek to Duluth on Thursday that resulted in a 4-0 shutout win at Duluth Marshall.

The game was a tune-up ahead of a much-anticipated home opener against Eden Prairie on Tuesday, after this edition went to press.

The Benilde-St. Margaret’s girls soccer team also opened with a big win by way of a 5-0 shutout win over Breck Saturday in St. Louis Park.

Vivian Shinall scored twice while Claire Van der Heide, Maria Van Hove and Maren Noble also added goals as the Red Knights scored four times in the second half.
