Add another name to the growing list of boutique shopping opportunities on Lake Street in Wayzata – A La Mode Boutique & Nail Spa is open for business.

The shop at 755 Lake St. E. is the second location for A La Mode. After a successful year and a half at 50th and France in Edina, owner Sara Saferstein set her sights on opening another shop.

“We’ve always been eyeing Wayzata, but it was a matter of finding the right fit and the right space.” Saferstein said. “This opportunity came, and we thought it was fabulous.”

The nail boutique marked its opening day May 14. Saferstein said she’s excited to build on her established brand of luxury nail care. In 2014, Edina’s A La Mode was named “Best Manicure” in the “Best of the Twin Cities” issue of Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine.

“We had a client come in today who’d been waiting for us to open and had heard about us from her friends in Edina, so it’s nice we have that relationship,” Saferstein said.

Standing in the back of her new shop on its first day, Saferstein explains what sets the A La Mode apart from other nail salons and why she’s excited to introduce the nail boutique’s services in Wayzata.

Safety and hygiene are vital at A La Mode, Saferstein explains. Gone are the jetted foot tubs where bacteria potentially can build, and there are no harsh chemicals used at A La Mode. The nail spa uses all-natural nail care products such as Deborah Lippmann, CND Shellac and Vinylux.

“When you walk in, all you smell are the lotions and scrubs. You don’t smell any of those odors that people are used to in a nail salon… everything that we do is designed for natural nails, so no acrylics, no harsh chemicals and no fumes,” the owner said.

A La Mode is also working on creating a signature scent and will introduce its own proprietary line of gluten- and nut-free lotions and scrubs this summer.

While A La Mode is all about luxury, Saferstein said it’s also about making sure visitors don’t feel like they’ll break the bank by becoming a repeat customer. She said a signature manicure begins at $25 and a signature pedicure at $40.

A La Mode Boutique & Nail Spa carries many brands exclusive to the boutique store. Shoppers can expect to find a selection of home decor, handbags and other fashion accessories from brands like Ted Baker, Designer’s Guild and Trina Turk. (Sun Sailor photo by Jason Jenkins)

But A La Mode isn’t just a nail spa, the shop also features a boutique shopping experience and carries many brands exclusive to A La Mode. Shoppers can expect to find a selection of home decor, handbags and other fashion accessories from brands like Ted Baker, Designer’s Guild and Trina Turk. The boutique even offers Margo Collection designer pajamas.

“Our boutique is always changing. We’re always bringing in the hottest, newest fashion trends and great luxury pieces,” the owner said.

With the new nail spa is only 20 minutes from its original Edina location, Saferstein said she hopes the new shop will attract customers from the western suburbs and around Lake Minnetonka.

“We’re just really excited to be in Wayzata. I think it’s a great location, and I love the energy and everyone we’ve met so far,” she said.

While walk-ins are welcome, Saferstein said she encourages clients to make an appointment online or over the phone.
