Jalen Wahl leads WHS past Tonka

After a promising start in the Section 6AA boys hockey playoffs, the Minnetonka Skippers saw their season end abruptly with a 5-1 loss to Wayzata Feb. 23.
Senior forward Jalen Wahl navigated through the Skippers’ defense for a hat trick. Maxwell Zimmer and Matthew Freytag also scored for the Trojans, who had 20 shots on goal.
“Wayzata buried its chances, and we didn’t,” said Minnetonka head coach Brian Urick. “Wayzata is a physical team that plays tough defense. They limited our chances for rebounds.”
Trojan senior goalie Aaron Dingmann had a lot to do with that as he finished with 31 saves. Senior forward Connor Thie scored Tonka’s only goal on assists from Jimmy Schuldt and Joe Lindberg.
In the first round of the playoffs, the Skippers fired on all cylinders and beat the Minneapolis co-op team 8-0.
Senior defenseman Tommy Vannelli sparked Tonka with two goals and two assists. Senior forward Max Coatta also scored twice. Single goals were provided by Tommy Brandabur, Jack Ramsey, Sam McNeil and Thie. Minnetonka had 47 shots on goal. Winning goalie Paul Ciaccio made 13 saves.
Minnetonka finished the 2012-13 season 19-7-1.
