SLP 10-year-old swimmer earns 10 medals
St. Louis Park’s Hayde Zheng might be only 10 years-old, but he is already turning some heads with his impressive swimming achievements.
Zheng, a member of the Eden Prairie-based Aquajets Swim Team, was champion of the 9-10 age group at the 2013 Foxjets Winter Classic meet Jan. 11-13 at the University of St. Thomas.
Zheng swam a maximum of 10 events (eight individual, two relays) and achieved personal-best times in every one of those events. He was high-point winner in his division and earned four gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
Zheng broke the meet record for the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 9.42 seconds. The original record was 1:09.45, established in 2008.
During the past season, Zheng has been ranked No. 1 nationally in his age group based on USA Swimming IM Ready scores in five sprint events. There were 4,000 qualified 9-under boys swimmers nationwide. His IMR score was based on his best times in five sprint events: 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 100 individual medley.
