Moore’s hat trick powers BSM hockey win
T.J. Moore’s hat trick propelled Benilde-St. Margaret’s to a 7-5 boys hockey victory over Holy Family Jan. 20.The win boosted the second-ranked Red Knights’ record to 15-5.
BSM trailed 3-2 before scoring three unanswered goals in the second period.
Holy Family goalie Derek LaCombe made 39 saves while facing 46 Red Knight shots.
“Holy Family’s goalie was a stud and made a lot of great saves,” said BSM head coach Ken Pauly. “We are happy to be getting more scoring from our second and third lines in recent games.”
Other BSM scorers besides Moore were Seth Chumley, Evan Fleming, Grant Besse and Johnny Austin. Red Knight goalie Andrew Sprang made 18 saves.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s defeated Rochester Lourdes 6-1 Jan. 26. Besse came through with two goals. Spencer Naas, Jack Lawton, Zack Hale and Austin scored the Red Knights’ other goals. BSM goalie Paul Lundberg finished with 10 saves.
Girls remain No. 1
Benilde-St. Margaret’s continues to be the top-ranked Class AA girls hockey team in the state. The Red Knights improved their record to 21-2 with a 5-0 victory over Spring Lake Park Jan. 29.
The Red Knights are first in the North Suburban Conference with a 21-2 record. Sara Taffe scored a hat trick in BSM’s win over Spring Lake Park. Kelly Pannek and Caitlin Reilly also scored for the winners. Goalie Abigail Miller stopped 10 shots.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s shut out St. Francis 9-0 Jan. 25 as Kippin Keller and Pannek recorded hat tricks. Taffe, Kaylee Druk and Brittany Wheeler came through with one goal apiece. Goalie Anna DeGuilio made six saves to preserve the shutout.
BSM hoops loss
Jayson Edwards netted 13 points as Benilde-St. Margaret’s lost 52-46 to Irondale Jan. 29. Chris Bell also scored in double figures (10). Alex Alexander and Matt Lilienthal scored six points each.
The Red Knights led 23-16 at halftime before being outscored 34-23 in the second half.
BSM has a 6-10 overall record and stands 4-4 in the North Suburban Conference.
