Oriole boys hockey team makes steady progress

St. Louis Park head boys hockey coach Shjon Podein is pleased with his team’s steady improvement.
“We have a lot of young kids on the team and they have been on a learning curve this season,” said Podein. “But they are working hard and showing progress.”
St. Louis Park (3-11-1) split a pair of games last week after dropping two one-goal decisions the previous week.
Irondale edged the Orioles 2-1 Jan. 10. Charlie Hills scored the Oriole goal with assistance from Miles Mularky. Goaltender Ryan Froom finished with 21 saves.
Henry Sibley defeated St. Louis Park 2-1 Jan. 7. T.J. Halfin scored the Oriole goal. Assists were awarded to Jake Lukasavage and Frank Jermusek. Froom tended goal and was credited with 23 saves.
St. Louis Park defeated Richfield 4-1 Jan. 15 as Curt Greenbush scored twice. Halfin and Hills added one goal apiece in the triumph.
Assists were awarded to Noah Fortmeyer, Jacob Lukasavage, Hills, Halfin and Joe Kramer. Goalie Froom made 21 saves.
Totino-Grace beat the Orioles 7-1 Jan. 19. Park’s lone goal was scored by Greenbush. He was assisted by Nick Owens. Goalie Eric Speicher finished with 37 saves.
St. Louis Park wsill host Cooper at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. Louis Park Recreation Center. The Orioles travel to Fogerty Arena to play Spring Lake Park at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
St. Louis Park plays Chisago Lakes at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at home.
Girls gain overtime tie
St. Louis Park and Minnehaha Academy battled to a 1-1 overtime tie Jan. 7. Natalie Vig scored Park’s goal. Lauren Bruun-Bryant was credited with a save. Goalie Hannah Brodersen stopped 15 shots.
The Orioles lost 5-1 to St. Francis Jan. 17. Eva Rose scored Park’s goal with assistance from Bruun-Bryant and Anna Basill. Goalie Peyton Stafne made 34 saves.
St. Louis Park will journey to Mound-Westonka at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. The Orioles return home to play Irondale at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.
The Orioles are on the road to play Hutchinson at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.
