‘Winter Bird Walk’ Jan. 26 at Lowry Center

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting “Winter Bird Walk” 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Lowry Nature Center, 7025 Victoria Dr., in Victoria.

Enjoy a winter morning bird walk to meet the feathered winter residents. See birds at the feeders, learn birdcalls and hike the Maple Trail in search of birds. Binoculars are provided. Dress for a winter hike with boots, hat and mittens.

Cost is $5 and reservations are required. Call 763-559-6700 to make reservations. 

Learn healthy habits Jan. 21 at Gale Woods

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting “Beans and Beyond” 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Gale Woods Farm, 7210 County Road 110 W., in Minnetrista.

Come see how easy it can be to teach your child healthy habits. Promote physical activity through play and experiment with farm-fresh recipes that inspire healthy eating.

Each class will include games, play and a meal you and your child help create.

Maximum two children per adult. Cost is $12 and reservations are required by Jan. 18. Call 763-559-6700 to make reservations.

Learn about winter Jan. 21 at Lowry

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting a series of homeschool programs.

Winter Snow and Ice – 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 21, at Lowry Nature Center, 7025 Victoria Dr., in Victoria.

Compare snow and ice, learn the truth about hibernation, experience different methods of winter travel and find out how nature survives Minnesota’s toughest season.

Cost is $5 and reservations are required. Call 763-559-6700.

Winter Ecology and Survival – 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement, 4001 County Road 24, in Maple Plain.

Practice winter survival techniques such as fire-building, shelter-construction and signaling for help. Also discover winter ecology and uncover survival strategies for plants and animals.

Wear warm clothes and bring a sack lunch. Activities take place on snowshoes if conditions allow.

Cost is $10 and this program is for ages 8-16.

Snowshoeing and Tracking – 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 23, at French Regional Park, 12605 Rockford Rd., in Plymouth.

Learn the history of snowshoeing, then strap on a pair to explore the woods around French Park. Be a wildlife detective and discover what winter animals are up to by learning to identify and read the animal track clues. Equipment is provided.

Cost is $5 and for ages 5-16.

‘Animal Scat’ Jan. 21 at Lowry Nature Center

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting “Kits & Cubs: Animal Scat” 1-3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Lowry Nature Center, 7025 Victoria Dr., in Victoria.

Drop off your preschooler to discover animal scat. Learn how to tell what deer scat and other animal scat looks like searching outside in the snow.

Scouting in Three Rivers Park District

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting a series of scouting programs.

Webelos: Naturalist Badge – 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Baker Near Wilderness Settlement, 4001 County Road 24, in Maple Plain.

Do birds have hollow bones? Are turtles amphibians? Learn the answers to these questions and more. January and February programs will take place on snowshoes, if weather permits.

Cost is $5 and the program is for ages 8-13.

Juniors and Seniors: Cross-Country Skiing – 4:30-6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at French Regional Park, 12605 Rockford Rd., in Plymouth.

Try striding, stopping, uphill, downhill and poling techniques. Follow your instructor down the trail to practice the new skills. Ski rental are available for an additional $4 and can be purchased at the beginning of the lesson.

Cost is $5 and this program is for ages 9-16.

Baker Park Reserve

Ski-Skating I: Basics – 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Baker Park Reserve, 4001 County Road 24, in Maple Plain.

Learn beginning ski-skating techniques including efficient edging, gliding and control. Prior skiing experience is recommended.

Cost is $22 or $37 with ski rental.

Classic Beginner I: Basics – 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Baker Park Reserve, 4001 County Road 24, in Maple Plain.

This class covers cross-country skiing basics including putting on equipment, falling down and getting up, diagonal stride, stopping, turning and a brief introduction to small hills. For novice skiers and those who want to review.

Cost is $18 or $28 with ski rental.

French Regional Park

Wool knitting class Jan. 26 at Gale Woods

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting “Sheep to Slippers or Mittens” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Gale Woods Farm, 7210 County Road 110 W., in Minnetrista.

Meet the sheep, learn how to process wool and make a pair of warm, durable felted mittens or slippers. Materials are included.

Cost is $60 and reservations are required by Jan. 22. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation.

Snowshoeing in Three Rivers parks

The Three Rivers Park District is hosting a series of snowshoe programs.

Beginner Snowshoeing – 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at French Regional Park, 12605 Rockford Rd., in Plymouth.

Enjoy a guided hike and discover nature in a winter landscape. All equipment is provided.

Cost is $4 and the program is for ages 6 and older.

MLK Day Family Snowshoeing – 2-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement, 4001 County Road 24, in Maple Plain.

Spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day snowshoeing while learning the basics. Then head of on a naturalist-led hike through the forests of Baker Park. End the day with hot chocolate by the fire. No experience is needed.

Cost is $5 and open to ages 5 and older.
