Minnetonka School board elects new chair

Charlie Kanan was elected Vice Chair, Lisa Sumner Clerk and John Holcomb Treasurer. The Minnetonka School District is governed by a seven-member board, elected at large to serve four-year terms. Elections are held in years ending in odd numbers.

By statute, the board holds a reorganizational meeting at its first meeting each January, electing officers and setting board salaries and the meeting schedule. It also designates official District depositories, external auditors, legal counsel, official newspaper and radio of record.

Former Board Chair Karen Walkowski nominated Wagner to lead the board, noting her two years of service as Vice Chair and her experience in setting board agendas and assisting with leadership.

Wagner was first elected to the board in 2007. She has been actively involved on many District committees including leading CASE, a citizens legislative action committee advocating for school funding and student education with the state legislature. In addition to her Board service, Wagner has been a PTA leader at Minnewashta and was the chair of the Early Childhood Family Education Advisory Council.

Board meetings will continue to be held on Thursday evenings. The board typically holds its regular business meeting on the first Thursday of each month and meets in study session on the third Thursday of the month. Exceptions to the regular meeting schedule occur in April and June. Agendas are posted to the District website on the Monday prior to each meeting. Regular meetings are video recorded for replay on cable TV and webstreaming.

The District maintains a group email address for the board to facilitate constituent communication. Use this email: schoolboard@minnetonka.k12.mn.us. All board members will receive your correspondence; the Board Chair or Vice Chair responds to emails on behalf of the board.
