Our beloved Hans passed away peacefully and surrounded by family and friends on December 26, 2012. He had been discharged from the hospital December 23 in time to enjoy Christmas with his family. December 26, 2012 represented the passing of the bravest person we have known. Hans Anthony Zimmerman was 28 years old.
Hans was a generous, thoughtful, sincere, devoted, forgiving, hilarious, intelligent, ambitious, passionate, and inspiring man. He enjoyed soccer, martial arts, dance, singing, song writing, drawing, engineering electronics, eating good food, playing games, and advocating for animal rights. He was gifted in music, playing violin, trumpet, drums, piano and singing at various points in his life. At an early age he was also an accomplished soccer player and a standout fielder in Mighty Mites baseball. When he graduated with honors from Benilde St. Margarets High School in 2003, he received a standing ovation, along with the distinguished President’s Award.
A lifelong resident of Minnetonka, Minnesota, he is survived by his parents, Joanell and Fred Zimmerman; his brother, Frederick J. Zimmerman and his wife Sarah Stein; his sisters Carita Zimmerman and her husband Peter Ekola, Christina Ristau and her husband Steve, and Brigitte Zimmerman; his nieces and nephews Emma, Peyton, Cooper, Ira, Julius, and Fiona; and many many friends.
Funeral Services were held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Minnetonka on December 31, 2012. Memorials preferred to Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Benilde-St. Margaret’s School, Minneapolis Children’s Cancer Research Fund, or Animal Humane Society.
