STEM Extravaganza at Minnetonka’s Glen Lake Elementary

Glen Lake Elementary is hosting a STEM Extravaganza for preschool students and parents 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the school, 4801 Woodridge Road, Minnetonka.

Glen Lake has been designated a STEM magnified school, and starting next year students will experience expanded STEM curriculum as early as preschool. The event will allow parents to see the expanded curriculum in action.

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math. All Hopkins elementary schools have STEM elements in its curriculum, and Glen Lake students will have additional STEM opportunities and experiments that promote a hands-on approach to developing real-world problem solving skills.

“STEM education develops critical thinkers, increases science literacy and empowers the next generation of innovators,” said Beth Potter, principal at Glen Lake Elementary.

The STEM Extravaganza will feature three hands-on STEM activities facilitated by The Works, a museum that makes learning about STEM interesting, understandable and fun.

Students and parents will also be able to try iPad apps and learn how technology-infused lessons are used in Kindergarten. There will be a STEM storybook time, as well as a tour of Glen Lake’s STEM program.
