Perpich information session planned in Golden Valley
Perpich Arts High School will host its final information session for students from around the state who are interested in attending the two-year program for grades 11 and 12. The information session meets 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. Registration is not necessary. Perpich is at 6125 Olson Memorial Highway in Golden Valley.
Seven arts areas are available: dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theater, visual arts and artscience. Artscience is a new program at Perpich Arts High School combining aesthetic and analytical ways of thinking. Students work across disciplines to produce innovative ventures based on a given scientific theme. Perpich is the only school in the United States offering artscience as a school-based program.
The school encourages and accepts applications from students throughout the state and also provides a residential component for those students whose homes are too far away for commuting. The residence hall usually has about 150 student residents. The school can enroll up to 310 juniors and seniors.
The deadline for applications for the 2013-14 school year is Friday, Feb. 1. Students meeting admittance and arts criteria will be invited to interviews with auditions or portfolio reviews at the school in March. Perpich offers a full academic program, including advanced placement courses. Interested families can look at the curriculum and course offerings on the Perpich website. The website includes additional information and application forms to download at pcae.k12.mn.us.
Those who cannot attend this final session are invited to contact the school for alternative arrangements at firstname.lastname@example.org.
