Area teams contend in state swim meet

If the state Class AA girls swimming and diving meet goes according to form this week, Lake Conference teams will battle for the championship.

Minnetonka enters the meet as the No. 1-ranked team in the state poll. Earlier this fall the Skippers won the state Class AA True Team title.

Prominent swimmers for MHS include sisters Liz and Carolyn Kane plus Amelia Schilling and Isabel Wyer.

Wayzata, the state True Team runner-up, also has designs on the state title with Mackenzie Merriam, Emma Paulson, Anna Petty and Madison Preiss as the key scorers.

Eden Prairie is another contender with Bre Thorne and Kira Zubar shooting for individual state titles.

Look for Edina to make a strong push with its individual standouts, Amelia Anderson, Olivia Anderson, Madeleine Eden, Heather Laedtke, Emma Wittmer, Rachel Wittmer and diver Yasmeen Almog.

Hopkins High’s state hopeful is Rae Bullinger, who finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke at last year’s state meet.

Diving prelims are set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, a the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Swim prelims will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, also at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The swimming and diving finals will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Aquatic Center.

 

Hockey in full swing

Lake Conference girls hockey teams are up and running with a full schedule of non-conference games.

In 7 p.m. contests Thursday, Nov. 15, Burnsville is at Eden Prairie, Jefferson is at Hopkins, Andover is at Wayzata and Edina faces Prior Lake at Dakotah Ice Arena.
