STEP plans 2012 holiday program in St. Louis Park

The St. Louis Park Emergency Program has announced the dates of its holiday program.

This holiday season, STEP will distribute a holiday food basket during November as well as holiday toys in December to St. Louis Park households. With the food shelf continuing to see a steady number of households served each month, many families need a little extra help to enjoy the upcoming holidays and reduce the extra stress that this season often brings, according to STEP. The nonprofit’s staff anticipates serving 500 households with holiday food and more than 600 children with holiday gifts.

Registration for holiday food baskets runs through Wednesday, Nov. 21, or until 500 households have been served. St. Louis Park households may register during their food shelf appointments or during walk-in times, which are 1-2:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays as well as 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays.

To register, all households must bring address verification, such as a copy of a recent utility bill or lease.

Registration for the holiday program is Monday, Nov. 26, through Thursday, Dec. 13. St. Louis Park households can register during their food shelf appointments or during walk-in times. All households must bring address verification as well as verification for all children in the household, such as birth certificates or school verification.

For questions about registration, call STEP at 952-925-4899, Ext. 13.

STEP is seeking donations, new toys for children from birth to age 10 and $10 Target gift cards for children ages 11-18. The organization is also seeking volunteers to sort and distribute toys from STEP’s Toy Shop Dec. 17-20.
